Healthy Kids:

Healthy kids are just as important as having a GREEN school. Organic foods that are bought locally can ease the often prohibitive cost of going organic. Making things from scratch can promote healthy and fun eating. Kids love to help cook and garden and all of these things can help kids eat healthier. Sending in a home-made lunch is often the healthiest option limiting waste and needless trash.

Recycling Made Easy

Simply put a small brown paper bag or small trash can in all of the rooms you have a trash can (bathrooms included). Put all paper waste in that can or bag as you throw away your trash. You’ll be surprised how quickly it will fill up and how less full your actual trash can is! You can recycle used paper bathroom cups, toothpaste boxes, the paper part of a Q-tip container, the toilet paper roll, paper tags off new clothes, shoe boxes and much more!   See how fast you can fill it. Put a large recycle bin in your garage or basement and simply keep filling it up with all the recycling from your house. Put it out on trash day and see if you can put out one less trash bag per week! It’s amazing how quickly our paper trash adds up! Do it with plastic waste too. You can recycle your shampoo bottles, your solo plastic bathroom cups, your moisturizer bottles and much much more!  Don’t forget to put one in your car. You’d be surprised how quickly paper waste adds up!

A family of five can easily put out 2 large bins of paper and one large bin of plastic per week and only ONE yellow Somerset bag of trash if you try really hard! See if you are up for the challenge!

Please see our Recycling tab to see what you can recycle in the town of Somerset and where to drop off your #5 plastics !
